Local pirates mark Talk Like A Pirate Day with call to “love pirates, hate racism”

PRESS RELEASE – 15 September 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Local pirates mark Talk Like A Pirate Day with call to “love pirates, hate racism”

In the run-up to International Talk Like A Pirate Day on Friday September 19,  a bold crew of Lichfield pirates are asking people to join their call to ‘love pirates, hate racism.’

This merry band of buccaneers are asking locals to mark the day by posting a picture of the pirate flag, the Jolly Roger, on their social media accounts together with the hashtag #lovepirateshateracism.

Spokespirate Captain Sheldon L Copperbeard said:

“Greetings, seadogs! Even though we’re so far from the ocean here in Lichfield, let’s take one day of the year to celebrate pirates and our wonderful flag, the Jolly Roger.”

“Our flag, the Jolly Roger, reminds us that a pirate crew, like the people of Britain, come from all nations. And all people are worthy of our understanding and respect.”

“And so we ask that this Friday you also join with us, share our flag on ye olde social media and say ‘Love pirates, hate racism. Yarr!”.

The Captain and their crew hope that by taking part in this easy action, people will be empowered to speak up and make connections with others who feel the same.
